Horseback riding in Salento, Colombia is something all travelers should experience during their visit to our beautiful country. The small town of Salento looks very much like an old western, cowboy town and it’s not uncommon to see people still riding horses to come into town. There are several guides throughout the town that offer horseback rides of various difficulties and lengths. At some point during a walk around through town there’s a very high chance you will be asked if you would like to ride a horse. At La Serrana we typically work with two guides that we’ve found to be the best value and experience. We recommend inquiring at our front desk if you are interested in horseback riding in Salento.
The stunning landscapes surrounding Salento make it a fantastic place for horseback riding. From coffee plantations, to waterfalls, to valleys there’s a huge number of things to see and trails to explore. Below are some of the different horseback riding options for our guests.
Horseback Riding Options
One of the most popular rides that we typically recommend is to a local waterfall just outside of Salento. This tour costs around $45,000 COP plus an additional $4,000 COP to enter a farm during the ride. The duration of the ride is about 4 hours round trip. If you are interested in booking this horseback riding trip please let reception know at least one hour prior to when you would like to leave so the guides can bring horses over to the hostel.
Our guides also offer rides of a shorter duration on different trails if need be. The cost is typically $25,000 COP per hour and they can take you through the town, down to the river or a variety of other places near Salento.
Valle de Cocora
If you would like to ride a horse through the beautiful Valle de Cocora there are horses available near the entrance to the park, near the small convinience store. Their rates are fairly similar around $25,000 COP per hour. One of the most popular things for travelers to do is rent a horse at the entrance to Valle de Cocora and ride them through the valley up to Acaime to see the humming birds.
